Apparently
used during WWI as an officers transport and troop
carrier. Modifications were made to the rear
suspension and the headlights have WD for War
Department on them. All the trim is brass. The car
was then taken to South Africa, where in 1932 it was
acquired by a Mr Saunders who bought it for his son
to use at Rhodes University. The car was then found
in a factory in Jeppe and its rescue entailed taking
down some walls. Owned in the 1950s by Dr. J.S.
Coller of Durban, used in the 1959 National Vintage
& Veteran rally. In 1968 the car was acquired by
Jan van Rensburg of Germiston, then in 1985 the car
passed onto his daughter Desiree and her husband
Charles Berg, who restored the car in 1997. The car
has been rallied extensively over the years.
Another reference says the car was dropped into a
harbour when it arrived in South Africa and was
rebuilt. There is also a reference to the car being
found in a sweet factory in King Williamstown.
