During the 1970s
various BMW models were assembled at the
Willowvale plant in Salisbury, Rhodesia. These
were the 1800 Cheetah, 2000 Cheetah (was there a
1600?), 2500, 2800 (3.0s ?), 1804, 2004 and 2000.
The 2000 was often referred to as the "German
2000" in Rhodesia, to distinguish it from the
Cheetah. Was this "German 2000" ever produced at
the Rosslyn plant and sold in South Africa? The
Cheetah was unique to Rhodesia, these models were
called 1800SA and 2000SA in South Africa. They
were never sold as BMW in Europe (or anywhere
else) as they were a modified Glas 1700, Glas
having been taken over by BMW.
