whilst on an AA Great Zimbabwe Run. Restoration

Built up
using the remains of two vehicles. The first vehicle
was originally used as the first Cecil Taxi in
Umtali, used solely to go from the Cecil Hotel to
the railway station and back. Later acquired by a
Mr. Batley, a farmer, who converted it into a fire
truck for his farm. When the farm and equipment
were sold by auction the car was acquired by
Mr. J. Franklyn of Adzani who used it as a hunting
vehicle. Sold to Mike Angell of Umtali by which time
the car had done some 27000 miles. The remains of a
second vehicle, chassis DA82244, were acquired from
Mr. Donald Scott, a Chipinga farmer. Most of the
mechanical parts were missing but the body was used
for the rebuild. Photo taken on a Shell Umtali Run.
Car took a direct hit from a mortar or rocket whilst
in Mick's garage in the late 1970s and was
destroyed. Remains acquired by Chris Walker who
rebuilt the car and then took it to South Africa in
1981, where it was sold in Johannesburg in the late
1980s.
